How do you make a business feel connected, inside and out?

My work at Viemmaco brings creative direction and IT into the same business. I work for the parent company, of which Viemmaco Aluminium Company Ltd is a part. The scope runs from the identity customers encounter to the software and digital operations used by the team.

For the aluminium business, the software brief follows the relationship between sales, payments, materials and production. At parent-company level, the creative work considers how the organisation and its businesses present themselves. Each requires a clear understanding of the people using it.

The software and the identity should serve the same business.

02 / THE APPROACHSOFTWARE / CREATIVE DIRECTION / IT

From operations to identity.

  1. 01

    Understand

Start with the business, its people and its products. Keep distinct materials and product variants traceable, and understand what each role needs to see.

  2. 02

    Connect

Design the relationship between stock, production, sales, payments and reporting. Keep management information within the appropriate views, with Ghanaian cedi as the operating currency.

  3. 03

    Shape

Develop a measured visual direction through typography, colour, packaging and company communications, with the product and its material character at the centre.

  4. 04

    Refine

Review the interface with the people who use it. Refine the brand applications against the parent identity, the communication and the context in which it will be seen.

Software shaped around the operation.

A business application has to follow the work people actually do. For Viemmaco Aluminium Company Ltd, that means understanding how an order becomes a payment, how production uses materials, and how finished products become available stock. My application development begins with those relationships, before deciding how they should appear on a screen.

Similar-looking products can have different dimensions, weights and material requirements. Preserving those distinctions is essential to reliable stock and production records. Sales, inventory and reporting also need clear ownership: staff should have the information required for their responsibilities, while management views retain the appropriate commercial detail.

For Viemmaco Aluminium Company Ltd
Software for the relationship between sales, payments, stock and production.

The organisation has to be recognisable. Its records have to agree.

Preserve the chosen product variant.

  • Sales & payments

The order, payment and receipt refer to the product being sold.

  • Stock & production

The variant retains its distinct dimensions, weight and material requirements.

  • People & responsibilities

Staff actions and management information have appropriate views.

The connection matters more than a similar name: production and sales need to refer to the same operational record.

The relationships behind the operation

The chosen product variant stays connected through sales, payments, stock and production. Parent-company identity and the aluminium subsidiary’s operating software remain distinct responsibilities.

Same form. Different dimensions.

A familiar outline can conceal a different product variant. Both sections are drawn at the same scale; their widths and depths differ, while their illustrated wall thickness stays the same.

These dimensions are illustrative, not company product specifications. Weight is a separate measurement and is not supplied or calculated here. The perspective suggests the profile’s form, not a measured length.

Width, depth and weight describe different properties. A reliable product record preserves each verified value, its unit and the chosen variant, rather than treating a similar outline as the same item. A weight calculation would require additional verified material and length data.

Follow a variant through the operation

The outline is familiar. The reference has to be precise.

A product name alone cannot establish the variant.
  2. PaymentPayment role

Check that variant’s own record; a similar outline is not a substitute.

    Which item is being counted?
    What this view needs
The same variant, its unit and its own stock record
    Keep separate
A nearby variant’s balance cannot stand in for this one.

Unspecified weight, length or material data must remain unspecified.

When an outline is not enough

“A rectangular profile” describes a form. It leaves the chosen dimensions unresolved.

Before a variant is chosen
Width, depth and wall thickness are unknown. A similar drawing supplies none of those values.
After the reference is chosen
The dimensions above travel with that reference. Weight, length and available quantities stay unspecified in this study.

The interface question is simple: keep the reference and its verified units together, and let missing information remain visible. This is a design explanation, not a production validator.

An authored diagram using the two specimens above and anonymous illustrative roles. No order, stock balance, payment or production record is created. Weight and available quantities are not supplied. It does not describe Viemmaco’s staff permissions or disclose business records.

Sales & payments
The software brief follows the order, payment and receipt together. Ghanaian cedi, clear transaction records and understandable staff actions guide the interface.
Stock & production
Product variants, material requirements and stock movements considered together, so production and sales refer to the same operational record.
IT & access
IT responsibilities alongside application development: usable staff workflows, appropriate access and practical support for the people operating the business.

One company. A coherent visual voice.

My creative direction sits at the parent-company level. The task is to give Viemmaco and its businesses a recognisable voice across digital communication, printed material and brand applications. The official eagle identity is the starting point; typography, colour, image direction and composition give it a consistent setting.

A useful identity system has to survive ordinary use: a document, a product label, a company announcement, a screen. The composition may change, but the organisation should remain recognisable. My direction considers the weight of the mark, the space around it and the relationship between type and information in each setting.

Inside the software, a product reference tells the team which material belongs to the work. In public communication, the identity tells a reader who is speaking. Both depend on keeping a clear relationship. The composition below brings the original parent identity and the aluminium business’s brief into one frame, giving each its own weight and space.

Give the identity room. Give the information a place.

I want the name to remain recognisable while the work beneath it changes. The mark carries that recognition; the words beside it make the particular business understandable.

New composition / portfolio study

The same original identity at two scales. The subsidiary’s full name and operational brief sit beneath the parent reference, with their own reading hierarchy. The eagle and wordmark are unchanged.

This is a new composition for this portfolio. Its typography and ink setting illustrate the relationship; they are not an approved Viemmaco brand standard or issued company material.
